21 Habits of Happy People!

1. Appreciate Life
Be thankful that you woke up alive each morning. Develop a childlike sense of wonder towards life. Focus on the beauty of every living thing. Make the most of each day. Don’t take anything for granted. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

2. Choose Friends Wisely
Surround yourself with happy, positive people who share your values and goals. Friends that have the same ethics as you will encourage you to achieve your dreams. They help you to feel good about yourself. They are there to lend a helping hand when needed.

3. Be Considerate
Accept others for who they are as well as where they are in life. Respect them for who they are. Touch them with a kind and generous spirit. Help when you are able, without trying to change the other person. Try to brighten the day of everyone you come into contact with.

4. Learn Continuously
Keep up to date with the latest news regarding your career and hobbies. Try new and daring things that has sparked your interest – such as dancing, skiing, surfing or sky-diving.

5. Creative Problem Solving
Don’t wallow in self-pity. As soon as you face a challenge get busy finding a solution. Don’t let the set backs affect your mood, instead see each new obstacle you face as an opportunity to make a positive change. Learn to trust your gut instincts – it’s almost always right.

6. Do What They Love
Some statistics show that 80% of people dislike their jobs! No wonder there’s so many unhappy people running around. We spend a great deal of our life working. Choose a career that you enjoy – the extra money of a job you detest isn’t worth it. Make time to enjoy your hobbies and pursue special interests.

7. Enjoy Life
Take the time to see the beauty around you. There’s more to life than work. Take time to smell the roses, watch a sunset or sunrise with a loved one, take a walk along the seashore, hike in the woods etc. Learn to live in the present moment and cherish it. Don’t live in the past or the future.

8. Laugh
Don’t take yourself – or life to seriously. You can find humor in just about any situation. Laugh at yourself – no one’s perfect. When appropriate laugh and make light of the circumstances. (Naturally there are times that you should be serious as it would be improper to laugh.)

9. Forgive
Holding a grudge will hurt no one but you. Forgive others for your own peace of mind. When you make a mistake – own up to it – learn from it – and FORGIVE yourself.

10. Gratitude
Develop an attitude of gratitude. Count your blessings; All of them – even the things that seem trivial. Be grateful for your home, your work and most importantly your family and friends. Take the time to tell them that you are happy they are in your life.

11. Invest in Relationships
Always make sure your loved ones know you love them even in times of conflict. Nurture and grow your relationships with your family and friends by making the time to spend with them. Don’t break your promises to them. Be supportive.

12. Keep Their Word
Honesty is the best policy. Every action and decision you make should be based on honesty. Be honest with yourself and with your loved ones.

13. Meditate
Meditation gives your very active brain a rest. When it’s rested you will have more energy and function at a higher level. Types of meditation include yoga, hypnosis, relaxation tapes, affirmations, visualization or just sitting in complete silence. Find something you enjoy and make the time to practice daily.

14. Mind Their Own Business
Concentrate on creating your life the way you want it. Take care of you and your family. Don’t get overly concerned with what other people are doing or saying. Don’t get caught up with gossip or name calling. Don’t judge. Everyone has a right to live their own life the way they want to – including you.

15. Optimism
See the glass as half full. Find the positive side of any given situation. It’s there – even though it may be hard to find. Know that everything happens for a reason, even though you may never know what the reason is. Steer clear of negative thoughts. If a negative thought creeps in – replace it with a positive thought.

16. Love Unconditionally
Accept others for who they are. You don’t put limitations on your love. Even though you may not always like the actions of your loved ones – you continue to love them.

17. Persistence
Never give up. Face each new challenge with the attitude that it will bring you one step closer to your goal. You will never fail, as long as you never give up. Focus on what you want, learn the required skills, make a plan to succeed and take action. We are always happiest while pursuing something of value to us.

18. Be Proactive
Accept what can not be changed. Happy people don’t waste energy on circumstances beyond their control. Accept your limitations as a human being. Determine how you can take control by creating the outcome you desire – rather than waiting to respond.

19. Self Care
Take care of your mind, body and health. Get regular medical check ups. Eat healthy and work out. Get plenty of rest. Drink lots of water. Exercise your mind by continually energizing it with interesting and exciting challenges.

20. Self Confidence
Don’t try to be someone that you’re not. After all no one likes a phony. Determine who you are in the inside – your own personal likes and dislikes. Be confident in who you are. Do the best you can and don’t second guess yourself.

21. Take Responsibility
Happy people know and understand that they are 100% responsible for their life. They take responsibility for their moods, attitude, thoughts, feelings, actions and words. They are the first to admit when they’ve made a mistake.
Begin today by taking responsibility for your happiness. Work on developing these habits as you own. The more you incorporate the above habits into your daily lifestyle – the happier you will be.

Most of all: BE TRUE TO YOURSELF.
Don't feel bad about accepting who you truly are - and don't let anyone try to change you!!

Have an awesome Boxing Day & a fab week, Vergers!!

Alice Springs Adventure

Good Morning Vergers

Recently we had the pleasure of travelling to Alice Springs to experience some of the most amazing and diverse scenery our wonderful country has to offer. But one of the Highlights for us was an amazing behind the scenes sunset tour at "The Kangaroo Sanctuary". The Kangaroo Sanctuary is a 90 Acre Wildlife reserve of untouched bushland owned and run by an amazing Gentleman by the name of Brolga. Brolga started the reserve in 2005 and has been able to expand the facilities by donations from amazing people both here in Australia and overseas.
Check out some of the gorgeous pictures we took while we where there, you can also visit the Kangaroo Sanctuary at: www.kangaroosanctuary.com

Happy Monday Vergers,

Wow what a weekend, we had two weddings over the weekend and my gosh they where both absolutely stunning. We where a little unlucky with the weather as it did rain on both days, but this didn't dampen the mood and it gave us some amazing light to capture these beautiful weddings.

We are so lucky to be able to be a part of peoples special day and to capture all the special moments with stunning images that can be treasured for ever.

Gosh we have an awesome job.

Have an Amazing week and enjoy the sunshine.

IN FOCUS; "Back Off; I'm Pregnant"

Pregnancy is the greatest gift we women have.  It’s one of life’s incredible miracles, growing another human being inside us.  From the exciting moment you find out through to feeling those first baby kicks to finally having your precious baby in your arms, it’s a journey that will be joyful, puzzling, tiring, and often quite embarrassing!

I remember the overwhelming excitement when I found out I was pregnant.  All of a sudden I felt like Mother Earth, in touch with myself, my body, nature and all things peace, love and Mung Beans.  It felt like the most natural thing in the world.  I’d heard about that ‘Glow’ you get, the joy of feeling those first kicks and the alluring maternal instinct that just ‘kicks in’.  I would nest, bake and sew within an inch of my life. I’d be peaceful and butterflies would dance around me the entire time, and I would be the most beautiful pregnant woman!
I can’t help but equate being pregnant to a roller coaster ride.  While incredibly exciting, most days you’ll want to throw up, you’ll be wrecked with fear about all the drinks you had the night you conceived, you’ll scream at your partner (hourly) and let’s not forget how downright undignified it can get.  Your body will do things you may never forgive it for!

It was probably around 35 weeks when it finally dawned on me while down on all fours, throwing up in the Food Court of a Shopping Mall (having also wet myself), near a bunch of innocent bystanders that I realised, perhaps this wasn’t the glamorous experience I had expected.   It wasn’t all bad, some nice folks brought me a chair, cold water, fanned me and the lovely lady in the nearby clothes shop took pity and gave me a new frock.  It was really nice frock too! Ah, good times.
Every smell saw me throwing up.  My nickname became ‘puke-in-a-pocket’.  I had no ‘Glow’, I was exhausted, I still couldn’t bake, sew and had zero desire to clean and nest like I was supposed to!    I didn’t even have any desire to sort a nursery. What the hell was going on?  Baby was due in 5 weeks and I still had no maternal instinct! I was freaking out.  It didn’t help that my partner passed out in the prenatal classes watching the birthing video.   I was mortified. It was at this point, I started to think that people really do need serious training, professional screening, or some sort of licence to become a parent.    It’s appalling that people like us could just procreate unsupervised!

Sure, I experienced the infamous physical symptoms.  Whole cheesecakes for breakfast, chocolate laced gherkins and dipped my French fries in ice-cream.   I was ridiculously uncomfortable and walked like a penguin.  My partner was constantly terrified of this swearing, sarcastic, screaming mess that was carrying his precious child.   I forgot I parked the car in the garage and called the cops about my stolen car because it wasn’t on the driveway where I normally left it.  The milk was in the linen cupboard and my iron is in the dishwasher and my hubby didn’t bat an eyelid.   Still, something was missing.  I did not feel like the beautiful, glowing, movie-like fairytale pregnant woman I was damn well supposed to be!

After nine months of sheer panic, uncouthness, hideous weight gain and diabolically embarrassing moments, this gorgeous little baby was in my arms.  From that moment, a really weird thing happens.  You think, ‘Oh I want another one!’ Okay, so pregnancy may not be the most glamorous time of your life, and for those who are just embarking on the journey, throw out all expectations, expect the unexpected, be kind to yourself and try not to emotionally scar your partner for life, don’t eat cheesecakes for breakfast, find the comedy as much as possible and stay near a bathroom!  It’s all worth it!

Happy pregnancy!

Breathtaking Boudoir!

Hi Vergers!

The last couple of months in the studio have been all about the Boudoir!!

Apart from helping our gorgeous clients achieve some truly beautiful & artistic imagery, we have just finished 3 full-on days at the Perth SEXPO!!

Now, we know what you're thinking... BUT we promise that, although some aspects of the event can be, let's say: "Interesting", our stand was classy all the way - We were loudly touting the empowerment of women. We ADORE creating absolutely beautiful images, and our stand practically oozed class, sophistication & little bit of quirkiness!
So it was an obvious choice for us to display our range of bold, colourful & fun Pin Up images!!
...and we had over 1000 people wanting to book in a fabulous, feminine Boudoir Shoot for themselves!!! =D

...So does SEX really sell? ...
I guess it does!! =D

We'll see you soon, Vergers!

Real Life Barbie Doll - FINALLY!!

Real Life Barbie: Artist Recreates Doll With Average Woman’s Body

real life barbie

You’ve probably seen few photos of what a woman would look like if she had Barbie's Measurements...But what if Barbie had the measurements of an average woman?
Artist Nickolay Lamm created a Barbie doll modelled off the average American 19-year-old woman, after being commissioned by MyDeals.com, Lamm used CDC measurements to create the “normal” Barbie Doll and found that it was quite different than the classic Barbie.

The average Barbie is a little shorter and a little wider, but Lamm says that his doll still looks pretty good. The artist believes that Mattell should start making a real-life Barbie Doll in order to give girl’s realistic expectations.
In a statement to the Huffington Post, Lamm says:
“If we criticize skinny models, we should at least be open to the possibility that Barbie may negatively influence young girls as well … Furthermore, a realistically proportioned Barbie actually looks pretty good.
‘If there’s even a small chance of Barbie in its present form negatively influencing girls, and if Barbie looks good as an average-sized woman in America, what’s stopping Mattel from making one?”
Here’s a look at Lamm’s Barbie doll.
barbie real life barbie

Lamm believes that Barbie Dolls can promote body issues in young women. To counteract this, Lamm has created a few pieces to show Barbie as a regular woman. Earlier this year, he unveiled a Barbie Doll, without makeup.
barbie without makeup

It’s important to promote a healthy body image to young girls, and Mattell could do that by creating an average looking Barbie Doll. Otherwise, the world is bound to see a few more women striving to be like Valeria Lukyanova, the real-life Barbie doll.

Excting Events for the Verge Team!

Hey Vergers

What a massive couple of months we have had...

We had The Vines Resort Wedding Expo, and what a fantastic day that was.
There was a fashion parade showcasing beautiful wedding dresses and our stall was lucky enough to get a front row view.

We had heaps of people vist our stall to have a chat, so may excited brides to be wanting a photographer to capture their special day : )

It was such an exciting and thrilling day and at the end when everyone was packing up Megan, Kate and I broke out in song and dance, so much fun! (probably will see some footage of our craziness soon! :P )

Then a few weeks later we went to the Sanctuary Bridal Fair in Bunbury, we met so many people, it was so much fun. Even though we had to get up at 4.00am to get there on time!

The other BIG news for this month is we are going to SEXPO!!!
A 3 Day Expo where we can really push our Boudoir collections. We have an exciting stand to showcase our work and it is set as one of our boudoir styles :)

In preparing for SEXPO we have done heaps of shoots and they look soooo good :)

Come to SEXPO and see us there, its something you will not want to miss. It runs from the 14th-16th of June, 11am-midnight!!

Until next time have a fantastic week :)

TOP 5 tips to staying healthy this winter

TOP 5 tips to staying healthy this winter:

As many of you know winter can be hard on your body physically and mentally, here are some tips to make the winter months more bearable :)

  1. Moisturize everyday, skin dries out more in winter than in summer.
  2. Flu-vax, may hurt for a few seconds but that small jab is better than the dreaded flu that can last up to 4 weeks.
  3. Exercise - keep motivated as sitting on the couch watching Revenge may be tempting but your body will cope better in winter if you move off that couch and do something :)
  4. With the nature of staying indoors in winter our bodies become Vitamin D deficient, using a VD supplement can make you feel like you do on the warm sunny days at the beach.
  5. SLEEP - probably the best medicine for staying healthy this winter, but getting enough deep sleep helps your body to regenerate and heal naturally making it easier to get through the cold winter days.

I hope these tips help :)

Most people, looking at a photograph of themselves, don't see the likeness that everyone else can see. This is because we do not see what we see every day in a mirror – the image is reversed, and no face is entirely symmetrical.

Good photographers know this and so will rely on pose and expression to portray a likeness and the fleeting moments of intimacy to capture character. This requires a degree of knowledge of the sitter by the photographer, over and above the purely technical skills required.

I work occasionally as an actor (watch Desert War ABC TV 26th April, 2013 – that's me as Churchill. Don't blink) and so from time to time require headshots to beef up my portfolio. The best photo I ever had taken was on my Graduation in 1972, but I don't look like that any more.

1973 - Sharp's Photographic, 2013 - Verge Studio

Having seen examples of the work of Kate Sanders-Tye ofVerge Studio, both formal and informal, I determined that if anyone could make me look good, she could, so I booked a session.

Verge Studio
Kate Sanders-Tye by Kate Sanders-Tye

Kate and her business manager, Megan, work out of a purpose-built studio on family land in Herne Hill. The studio has a reception, a make-up and dressing room, the studio itself set with the usual lights, inverted umbrellas and so on as well as a small kitchen where Megan makes fantastic coffee and a viewing room where you can view your shots and choose the ones you like best.

A photographic session costs from about $125 (but watch the website and Facebook, as there are often special offers) and lasts a an hour at least, depending on style of shoot, individual or family portraits. Once done, you can choose from printed albums, individual photo prints on archival paper, images mounted on glass blocks and a huge range of imaginative presentations.

Verge Studio
The shoot at Verge

I seldom look good in photos, being beefy rather than bony, and so it was with a certain degree of trepidation I arrived, hat in hand for my shoot. Kate and Megan were immediately warmly welcoming and put me at my ease. Chatting and drawing me out on my favourite subjects, I relaxed and the natural personality peeked out and was photographed in a almost continuous stream of clicking.

We photographed inside and out, in sunlight and shadow, with natural light and artificial, bare-headed and hatted. The photo proofs that I have seen are marvellous and exactly what I wanted.

As well as individual shoots for ageing actors Verge Studio ('photography on the edge') do 'boudoir shoots' in as advanced a state of nudity as you are comfortable with, weddings – I have seen the photographs and they are spectacular.

For wedding photography Verge start usually with the engagement and work through to the actual ceremony and reception, using two photographers and a facilitator – often pressed into extra-ordinary service, such as rushing a wedding dress in for alterations minutes before the ceremony.
Prices and packages vary, so your best bet is to simply talk to them and see what Verge can do for you.

Kate has had a long career, given her age, first as a model, then as a photographer. She has won awards and has recently had a highly-regarded exhibition at Taylors Art House.

Her photographic influences are Ansel Adams ('love the use of black & white shapes & textures') Patrick Litchfield and David Bailey.

Behind The Scenes @ Caversham House!

Behind The Scenes

'Caversham House'

Grand and extravagant would best describe ‘Caversham House’.  We have no doubt it deserves the honour of Best Wedding Venue for 2012.  A stunning location for your dream wedding!   We had such an awesome day shooting various wedding themes throughout the venue.  A cast of thousands came to help us out - and even though the day was ridiculously HOT, the energy from all was bubbly and electric!
Whilst Caversham House is best known for it’s grand staircase, we decided it was time to highlight the entire magic of this location from a new perspective! With two new ceremony areas just released, the waterfall, wooden swing, the jetty – there are so many romantic locations, we captured it all!
Our themes for the day: ‘Vintage’, ‘Traditional Classic Princess’ and of course, ‘ A Little Edgy’!  Our models were super fantastic, full of fun, relaxed and gorgeous.  The kids were amazing, blowing bubbles on the swings, giggling – too cute!

The gentlemen from ‘West Coast Rides’ were very cool, helping the bride in and out of the car for the shoot, the dresses and jewellery by 'Confetti Occasions', wedding cakes by 'Vines Cakes', the flowers by 'Angel Flowers' and 'Samantha Franklin Hair and Make Up' –  all so beautiful! A joy to shoot all the intricate details that go into making a wedding such an unforgettable experience!
As the sun set on our final shot down at the jetty on the beautiful old boat, the ‘Titantic’ shot had to be done!

Thank you to everyone who was a part of creating such an exciting day and of course to Caversham House for being wonderful hosts!

Keep an eye out for all the gorgeous images, soon to be released at Caversham House and on our Facebook page!

Time Out, Anyone??

Health

'Take Time Out For You!'

If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a thousand times, ‘behind every great man - is a great woman’.  She is great, but beneath her amazing exterior, she’s possibly an exhausted, swearing, sarcastic, bitter, alcoholic mess - on the brink of a cosmic tantrum!

How many times ladies have we forfeited our own needs, succumbing to the demands of our partners, children, parents, our friends and everyone in between?  It’s a little something I like to call ‘Martyrdom Syndrome’.  The call of duty, a burning genetic desire to please and feel needed.

We do give a lot of ourselves to the people we care about, and let’s be clear; there’s nothing wrong with that!  But are we possibly doing too much?  When we feel exhausted by it, burst into tears at the postman or ponder that bottle of wine in the fridge before we’ve had our morning coffee, the yes, I would say it is.  When we find our emotional banks empty and feel the need to run screaming from the building, this is an immediate sign to throw oneself in the ‘time out’ corner and take stock!

Here’s the good news, everyone who loves us, wants us to be happy.   Have no doubt about it.   We all deserve to take a non guilt moment to ourselves each day to remind us that our own needs, thoughts and desires count.   Here’s the bad news, in order for you to take time for you, you’ll have to learn to say ‘no’.  Tough break for those of us who dislike the ‘feeling’ of letting someone down, but every now and then, we should!

If you find your partner asking of you in a manner that has already been answered, for example “darling, forgot to tell you I’ve asked 20 of our closest friends for dinner, why don’t you make your famous lasagne!”, that’s a reason to whip out a little shock treatment.  “No darling, I have other plans tonight”.   Here’s hoping next time you’ll hear, “darling, I’m thinking of getting a few of our friends together a week from Friday, why don’t I cook so you can relax and enjoy the night.”  Cue clouds parting, angels singing!

There’s no real secret here, it’s about setting boundaries and can I add, subtly.  No need to scream it whilst hurling a plate across a room.  That’s called ‘anger management issues’.  Let’s set some boundaries before we get there.  If we are always available and always say yes, then inevitably we are taken for granted and the time for ourselves decreases.  We find ourselves running around like we’re on speed!

We all want to be the women that can do it all – and enjoy it. So, let’s just do it better and take a moment for ourselves each day to exercise, read, write, solve world problems, have a manicure, start a veggie patch, ponder the universe and perhaps dream a little.  We owe it to everyone around us and more importantly – to ourselves!
