Hi Verge Elves,
"The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other." ~Burton Hillis
How is it Christmas time already!!!???
I was watching Mrs Doubtfire the other night, & the ending reminded me of how many different types of families are out there.
There is no such thing as a typical family gathering at Christmas, these days =)
My family is definitely not ‘ordinary’. We love spending Christmas with each other & we have a great time, but there are things like halves & steps & marriages & divorces that have morphed the family into what we have today.
Obviously, being the 21st century, it’s no shock that families do not always look like the ones you’d see in a 1950s cookbook. You can picture them – wide smiles, colour-coordinated Santa shirts, a turkey the size of a beach ball & a Great Dane sitting proudly in the corner (wearing antlers).
It doesn’t matter if your family looks like that, or completely different!
Christmas is a time when you’re surrounded by the people you love (whether they’re family or friends). If you are alone on Christmas & dread this time of year, then do something about it that will make you smile – head over to Scotland in time for Hogmanay, or head down to the local soup kitchen to offer a helping hand.
It shouldn’t matter because the expectations of Christmas can only be fulfilled by what we make of it.
So whether you have a family like the 1950s cookbook, or you’re out by yourself celebrating Hogmanay, we wish you a very joyful Holiday season, filled with endless hours of laughter & relaxation.
Merry Xmas -
See you in 2012!!
