Greetings to All Our Little Verge Elves!

Greetings to all our little Verge Elves and welcome to our Festive December Issue!

We thought we would delight you all with a merry little poem to sum up the year...

___

Tis the week after Christmas, and the Verge Girls remember,
The laughter & moments they’ve shared since last December .
These past twelve months have flown by so fast,
But the Girls know for sure they’ve had such a blast!
In January, the wedding season was in full swing,
And In February, we were still seeing more Bridal Bling.
In March we began working with several magazines,
Through April and May, we gave our website a polished sheen!
The tornado in June almost flew us to Oz,
But Oh, what a mess the Blockbuster was...
After 5 years of waiting, Kate got her wish – Hoorays!
Took her family to Bali for some warm sunrays.
The new financial year began in July,
and August welcomed our expo: “Women, the Other Half of The Sky”.
Then the Verge Girls attended Light the Night,
To support those in need, despite the cold bite!
When September arrived, we displayed our wares, proud
At the eBridal expo, we stood out from the crowd!
We were covered in paint for most of October,
As we re-vamped and moved our Studio over
(to the beautiful and serene Swan Valley – That’s Ace!
The fresh air & vineyards surround our new place)
A fantastic time was had in November,
At Caversham House - A photo shoot to remember!
With other suppliers to help, we convened brides & grooms,
and cars, dresses, jewellery and a bouquet of blooms!
Now, we’re deep in December, and out of nowhere – PHWOAR!!
The Festive Season has crept up on us once more.
So, delightful decorations are hurriedly hung,
And off-key songs are loudly sung.

We want to pass on our appreciation, sincere
For all your support throughout this past year.
We’ve met some incredible, hilarious, inspirational folk,
And have laughed so hard that we’ve almost choked.

So thank you, thank you, and thank you again,
For your dedication and kindness that never appears to wane.
With every day that passes, let’s Live Life free, fun & bold
We wonder with excitement, what 2013 will hold!

Remember these words from the little pink Verge Fairy:
In our world, there’s no such thing as “Ordinary”

Raising I.T. Experts

In Focus

'Raising IT Experts'

What happened to backyard frolicking, the BMX bandit, the friendly neighborhood street cricket game and screaming like an old fish wife out the door - “time for dinner!”?  It seems raising little people has somehow surpassed our primal natures and harshly subjected us to the need for an IT Degree to communicate with them.

When your child informs you the need for an Ipad, Ipod, Iphone and everything else that starts with “I”, has become like air,  it’s time to review the costs!  A must have to survive in the world of social pressures and certainly in keeping your child from ticking off the Anti Social Nerd box, your only response may be - “there’s no “I” in team, you can share mine!”

We'll miss the days of our kids screaming out in the night that they are sick, expect a text from here on in.  Our school newsletters are now fraught with ‘please ask your child to keep their phones turned off during school hours’.   They’re facebooking, twittering and blogging their way to world domination.  We don’t get marketing surveys spamming our inbox anymore (ok that’s good), but a little disturbing that global marketing companies now care what a 12 year old thinks!

Glass half full, there are some really cool advantages.  Parking in the shopping centre has now become less of a navigational nightmare.  Yes those Alzheimer moments are a thing of the past as your little genius simply unleashes an ‘App’  they have downloaded on your phone, ‘Find My Car’ and  pinpoints your vehicle on level 3, Green Isle, Bay 37.  Wow, technological breadcrumbs!

If you’ve ever wanted to spell the word ‘HEPATICOCHOLANGIOCHOLECYSTENTEROSTOMIES’ (meaning - a surgical creation of a connection between the gall bladder and a hepatic duct and between the intestine and the gall bladder), oh come on, you might - have no fear, your IT prodigy will have soon Googled it and whipped it down in front of you before you can explain what it means.  If you’ve ever had the armpit sweating experience of assisting a child with Grade 6 homework, you will soon come to realise that Google is your friend too.

So parents, while the phrases ‘get a job’ and ‘drive yourself’ or even ‘make your own dinner’ guarantees you a solid rabbit in the headlight stare from your little IT experts, we still know more than them, for now.

News News News.....

Verging News

Greetings Verge Fans!

Our exciting news as promised - we have officially moved from our Morley location!

The month has been mostly spent as 'Bob the Builder's - renovating our beautiful new studio in the heart of historic wine country, Swan Valley.  A gorgeous location for inspiration, beauty, relaxation and fresh air!

Stunning Swan Valley home of the Wineries              Paint specialist!
The new studio is located at 243 Campersic Rd, Herne Hill

We have already teamed up with some local wineries and cafes who are offering our fabulous clients discount vouchers and all sorts of goodies to ensure your next visit with us guarantees an absolute adventure away from the hustle and bustle of the city!   We can’t wait for you to visit!

In between all the renovation madness, we did manage to frock up and spend ‘Melbourne Cup’ at the ‘Edgecombe Bros Winery’ with some glamorous ladies from our local business community.   Even though we didn’t win a brass razoo on the horses – it turned out to be a winning day for us after all!  We came second and third place in the Hat Stakes!

 Crazy Hatted Verge Girls!

While Kate wore a ‘Light Box’ hat (bright idea) securing 2nd  place,  Megan’s purple velvet hat dubbed the ‘Mad Matter’ grabbed 3 rd !   It was an awesome day of fun!

On Tuesday the 13th November, we had a glorious day shooting at ‘Caversham House’ in Swan Valley – voted by the people of Perth as the Winner of the Best Wedding Venue for 2012!  What an honour it was for us to be selected as one of the preferred photographers for the venue.   Along with a few of our favourite local businesses – West Coast Rides, Angel Flowers, Confetti Occasions, Samantha Franklin Hair and Make Up and Vines Cakes, we all created a spectacular production of wedding themes.    Our images will be displayed throughout Caversham House and in a coffee table book to showcase their stunning venue. Check out the ‘Behind the Scenes’ below!

A special mention to our fabulously awesome work experience girls this month: Rianna and Paige.  We had so much fun and we were delighted to have you on board, learning about our exciting industry.

November, done and dusted!  Enjoy our current Newsletter and make sure you check out our Special of the Month for a family portrait - great time to get your family photos ready to send out with the Christmas cards!

If you're not a The Edge Newsletter subscriber, you are missing out!! Email us RIGHT NOW to get on the list =D

Happy New Year!!!

Welcome to 2012 - It already feels like this is going to be a positive & exciting year for everyone!!

Did you know, in Scotland, the New Year celebrations are called Hogmanay???
Well, with this tradition, the first visitor of the year (called the "First Footer") has a lot on his plate when he arrives at your home:
  1. He must be a tall, dark, handsome man (...No, I'm not even kidding!).
  2. He can't be a doctor, minister, or gravedigger (yikes!)
  3. They cannot have a Monobrow!! (My personal favourite)
They do have a certain advantage, though, as the lucky "First Footer" gets a kiss from all the girls!!

Anyway, the point of this tale is that, in this Scottish tradition, the "First Footer" must bring several customary gifts, including:
  • Coal (to bring warmth to the house )
  • Money (for financial prosperity)
  • Bread (so that everyone has plenty to eat)
So, with that in mind, let me be your "First E-Footer" of 2012!
[I'll have to break one of the rules, though - I'm not a tall, dark & handsome man... BUT I don't have a monobrow, and I'm not a gravedigger...]

In the place of Coal, I'd like to share a couple of quotes with you that always bring warmth to my heart & a smile to my face:

  •  "Most of us would be upset If we were accussed of being "silly", which comes from the old English word "seilig" and it's literal definition is "to be blessed, happy, healthy and prosperous."
  • -Zig Ziglar
(So it's more of a compliment than anything else!)

  •  "Happiness is like jam. You can't spread even a little without getting some on yourself."            - Anonymous

Instead of Money, here are a few money-saving tips that might help guide you through the year ahead(courtesy of:  www.diversifi.com.au & www.dumblittleman.com):

  • Unplug appliances (kettle, toaster, TV, radio etc) when they're not being used - apparently you can save even more cash than simply turning them off at the wall!

  • Shop when you're in a hurry AND stick to your list - that way you'll stop those impulse purchases & save so much more cash in the long run!

  • Interest Rates are now at an incredible low of 4.25% (with another rate cut anticipated as early as February!), so try to fix your current home loan rate now, if you can - Because all good things must come to an end eventually!!

As I can't bring you a loaf of Bread, here's a fabulous (and super easy) recipe for Chocolate Mug Cake (courtesy of www.allrecipes.com.au)!!

Ingredients

Serves: 1

  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tbsp choc chips
  • 1 large mug

Preparation method
Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 3 minutes

1. Add dry ingredients to the mug, and mix well.

2. Crack an egg and add it to your mug. Be sure to mix it well to avoid any pockets of flour in the corners. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the vanilla essence.

3. Pop your mug into the microwave & zap for 3 minutes on maximum power. Wait until the cake stops rising, and sets in the mug.

4. If necessary, run a knife around the sides of the mug, and tip the warm cake out of the mug and onto a saucer.

So, we hope that your year is filled with health, wealth & happiness... (and yummy mug cake!!)

Love,
The Verge Girls  xoxo
