Supanova 2011 !!

Hey Verge Nerds,

A few weeks ago, us Verge girls got our Geek on, having a ball shooting the guys & girls of SHWA [aka Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance] at SUPANOVA 2011!!!
Check out their Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/#!/SHWAwrestling

What an incredible experience!

This is a world where the words ‘Body Slam’ and ‘Free Hugs’ can be heard in the same sentence…Frequently!

There was costume after costume of anime fans, comic book fanatics, gamers, movie whizzes, TV buffs &, of course, Wrestlers! Megs (the cheeky geeky) and Beck (Batman’s girlfriend) felt rather underdressed the first day in our relatively conservative Verge Uniforms, so we stepped it up a notch on Sunday (let’s just say there were leather pants involved)…

Of course our highlight was watching the wrestling matches!
AWESOME! We started off meeting the guys & girls from SHWA. They are the friendliest & funniest group of people- You can tell they honestly love what they do. As the convention opened to hordes of costumed Perthians, the Wrestling costumes were donned, and Megs & Beck copped an eyeful of what could only be described as ‘Manflesh’ =D (it’s a hard life being around butts and abs, we tell ya)

By 12pm the crowd surrounding the ring was enormous, ready to see some blood (Joking! ...sort of). The guys came onto the ring yelling and thumping chests (King Kong style) with testosterone & ego on full throttle. Amazing to see the commitment these guys give to their sport (trust us, they took an absolute beating!!). We have to commend the skill involved in this sport as these guys get seriously hurt. Guys leap from the top of the ropes onto their opponent with an almighty sickening smack when they make contact. To walk away from that with just aching  limbs, slap marks, the occasional blood nose & swollen eye, just to do it all again an hour later, then yeah…free hugs all ‘round. On Sunday even one of the girls got in there. Those bikini babes have gumption!

It was great to see the crowd getting into it, especially the kids. Young boys and girls were chanting the wrestlers’ names and cheering - and all couldn’t wait to get “fisticuff photos” with the guys after the matches. Adorable!

We barely put the camera down with the amount of photo ops. In between the matches, some of the guys walked around the pavilion getting Mean-Machine shots with the rest of the costumed public. Lots and lots of photo-bombing (most notably to Batman and the Storm Troopers)!

Big shout out to Amanda for inviting us along and running the show!
And huge thanks to all involved on the day, you made us feel very welcome =D

‘Til next time,
The Verge Gals!

Broome - Day 7

Race Day in Broome!
Time to get dressed up & go see some horses!

Women in summery dresses & exorbitant headpieces blocked our view...We could barely see any horses! But as the sun dipped below the orange horizon, the cardigans & coats appeared, along with an increase in the bar service. Everyone was quickly getting merry =)

It was too cold for us, so we went back to the house & spent the evening playing Twister, Monopoly & waching movies with some of our new friends!! What a wintry night - But great company & a bottle of wine kept us warm =D

We're sad to leave Beautiful Broome, but it's always great to come home =D

.....so we'll head back to the real world, where there's no Matso's, Gopher-rides through town, or wine with every meal.
Surprisingly, we'll be very glad ot get back into the (ab)normal work week - when you love your jobas much as we do, it's always exciting to get back into it all!
(We were almost having Withdrawals!!)

Goodbye Broome!!!

Broome - Day 6

The day was still black as night, as our alarms promptly awoke us at 5am.

Piling on the layers of clothing, we gulped down a coffee & jumped in the car to head down to Riddell Beach for the morning's sunrise shoot. The sun was just peeking over the russet-coloured rocks as we arrived.
Our (very brave) client stripped down to her bikini & jeans, & took her position atop the rocks.

By the end of the morning, she was frolicking through the icy water, laughing as it splashed up her legs.
What a great start to the day =)

We also decided to do something completely sensible today...
We hired out a "Four Wheel Mobility Scooter" (aka: A Gopher!).

                                                  OFF TO WORK!! =D

The golden sunset was just stunning!! Perfect backdrop for our gorgeous couple shoot!!

Broome - Day 5

The morning chill stirred us from our deep sleep.

Freezing morning at yet another raunchy beach photo shoot!!
..... Need we say more? .....

Later, as we thawed out, we took a walk to the local shops, passing through the Broome Bronx as we searched for some sign of a sidewalk through the red red dirt (obviously finding none), & friendly (but intimidating) locals called out their hello's from their driveways.

Time to get some shots of funky scenery around Broome!!

BEACH  CRAB  FOOD!!

 AWESOME ABANDONED HUT!

Then it was off to the local open-air cinema for an early showing of the film 'Arthur'. What an awesome place!!
The facade made of rusty corrugated iron; The main sign was made of tiny lights, only 12 of which were still in working order, so instead of going into Sun Cinema, we entered the doors of Su  in  a. We got our tickets from the old-fashioned wooden ticket booth, grabbed some popcorn & headed to our seats (rows of folding sun chairs!). As we sat under the stars & the movie credits began to roll, delighted squeals carried over the hedges from the Fair in the oval next door (people obviously on the rides at the Mini-Royal-Show). To top off the night, a Qantas jet took off from the airport down the road; we could prantically touch the plane's belly as it flew into the sky above us!

What an incredible night!

Broome - Day 4

Awaking to the peaceful sounds of Broome, we (metaphorically) danced for joy at the welcome warmth of the Wednesday morning!

Overlooking one of Broome's little hidden beaches, we enjoyed a truly delicious coffee with our Late Breakfast (or early lunch?).

Down a bumpy, vivid red dirt road, we were soon on our way to visit Willie Creek (a pearl farm!) with some friends. Along the way, we encountered a group of people shouting & waving colourful banners, obviously avid protesters.

We soon passed the pearl shop, before heading into the tough terrain of rocks & soft sand (more off-road adventures!), where we parked in the shade of a sheer cliff face. The others quickly grabbed their fishing rods & bait, & we all headed toward the sparkling blue water.
We took position on a small cliff overlooking the water, & they cast their lines off the edge. We sat silently in the sunshine (with the 30+ sunscreen close by!).
Time disappeared while we were on that cliff...

3 hours & 12 fish later, we headed back down the bumpy red road; sleepy from the sunshine & hungry for our dinner of fish!

Noticed a long tube hanging from a tree nearby, & when we enquired, it turned out to be the Famous Condom Tree (a home for Runaway Rubbers).
Even collected a stray coconut from the park on the way home.
Really feels like we're in the tropics now!!

....only because of the coconut...not the condoms...
