Broome - Day 3

Spent the morning searching for dinosaurs at Gantheaume Point...but alas we could only find the foot prints.

Today's photo shoot was a little unusual, even for us! Our clients today all looked strangely similar & insisted on not allowing us too close to them!!
One of them was nesting, and apparently could get extremely aggressive when approached:

It's Croc Time!!

At the shoot this morning, we got up close & personal with Muddy & the celebrity croc Fatso; two of the most dangerous & vicious Crocs in all of Broome!!
They look the same as all the other crocs, but there were numerous signs that tipped us off:

Despite the obvious signage, one of the children in the crowd decided to play Footsies with Muddy. Luckily Muddy did not want to play, and the child went home with all her limbs.

FEEDING TIME!!

YIKES!!

After the tour, we now know the difference between alligators & certain types of crocs, just in case we have another Close Encounter Of The Croc Kind in a photo shoot!!
As sunset approached, it was off to Matso's for a quick pre-dinner snack.
8pm; We headed off to dinner at a local restaurant.
Then.....Disaster Struck!!
After meeting up with our (life-saver) Honey & some friends at the bar, we happily made our way into the restaurant for our 8.15pm booking.
We promptly left at 8.17pm, as we were informed the restaurant was closing in 10 minutes!!!

Oh no!  What shall we do?! Where should we go?!
.....MATSO'S!!!

I bet they recognise our faces there by now!
We pushed the tables together, placed the fastest food order in history & settled in for our meal.
It was 11pm before we headed contentedly home.

Good food, Good company, Good night!!

Broome - Day 2

The stark contrast of the bold turquoise water, against the dramatic red rocks & cliffs that line Riddell Beach made for a beautiful morning & the perfect spot for a family photo shoot!
A young girl's sudden laughter floated on the breeze. The family of five was circled around the little girl as she splashed, deliriously happy, in a crystal clear rock pool.

Meanwhile, we fought to stay upright in the strong winds that swept the empty beach, Kate clinging firmly to her camera equipment; Megan almost taking flight, trying to control the massive diffuser! Not a pretty sight & not exactly the ideal time to be concerned with one's appearance! =)
We'll leave the rest to your imagination!!
Later, in Chinatown, we went searching for jackets. Didn't expect it to be jacket-weather in Broome (it can get very chilly in the mornings!)... Perhaps we brought some of the winter chill with us from Perth!

Finished the day with a lovely dinner & a glass of wine at Matso's (quickly becoming our local haunt) =D
Totally loving their Mango Beer - It's Amazing!!

We're really getting the hang of the 'Holiday' part of  "Working Holiday"

Broome - Day 1

Stepping onto the tarmac, the bright Broome sun shone down & a strong breeze wound around us, tossing our light clothing into swirls of mayhem!

Welcome to Broome!!

Immediately we slathered ourselves in layers of 30+ sunscreen.
Surprised at the lack of sniffer dogs & surly customs officers, we made our way to Cable Beach, and went for a long stroll

Then who do we see, but Caroline Taylor (from Taylor's Art Cafe in the Swan Valley!!), looking tanned & very nautical in her stripes & fedora hat. She had been away for 6 weeks, working on a "Motor Vessel" (I think that's a type of boat?) & was stoppiong in Broome on her way back to Perth the next day. Unbelievable timing!! We all went for a late lunch at Matso's (a local pub restaurant). It was fantastic catching up with the gorgeous Caroline.

Starting to remember what relaxing is all about!!
...well that didn't last long...

A last minute change in accommodation for one of the Verge Girls, and we ended up visiting an actual house of horrors!! Unfortunately, due to censorship issues, we aren't able to retell the tale online, but it's okay... We are all safe, but can't speak for the last visitor there; we thankfully were saved by the beautiful Honey!

I wonder if Day 2 will be as exciting!!

Hi Vergers!!

Well this week we visited Viv & the lovely ladies at the Red Cross Blood Van at The Vines!!

If you're thinking about donating (and even if you’re scared of needles, like some of us!!), please go along - It only takes 20 minutes in the chair, & you could save THREE people's lives!

...But as we discovered this week, there are a few factors you need to consider before you go...

Firstly - you can’t just rock up and roll your sleeve up. You need to make an appointment as you need to have an interview, to ensure you are eligible to donate blood. This can factor in lots of different things, from prior  illnesses, to current mdeications, to having tattoos.
So please ensure you ring and book first!

Here are some basic bullet points taken from the Donate Blood website:

Most people are able to give blood if they:
  • are fit, healthy and not suffering from a cold, flu or other illness at the time of donation or in the previous 7 days
  • are aged between 16-70 years (in QLD and WA 16-17 year olds require parental consent)
  • weigh more than 45kg (16-17 year olds need to weigh more than 50kg)
  • drink up in the 24 hours before donation, especially in warm weather, and have at least 3 to 4 good-sized glasses of water/juice in the 3 hours before donating (plasma and platelet donor need to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses)
  • eat something in the 3 hours before donating
  • bring ID. Please bring at least one form of photo identification.

The Red Cross have announced recently that they have only approximately 2 days supply left of O Negative blood. So if you’ve got that blood type then give them a call =D
